BRUCE CHARLESWORTH
LOST DANCE STEPS
INSTALLATIONS
Installation detail from Lost Dance Steps (large blackboard), 1982
LOST DANCE STEPS is Charlesworth's second installation and was designed to be site-specific to a room at Artist's Space in New York. The room itself was painted and made light-proof, but the architecture of the space was unaltered. Lost Dance Steps includes several groupings of objects that relate to the narrative of a video shown on a housed monitor in the space. These function as a collection of symbols. They include a framed Polaroid of an airplane (from Special Communiqués), a table with two model houses, a lake and a red car (evoking a scenario from Surveillance and The Man in the Back Seat) and a large blackboard of scribbled plans.
